I actually think Blackstar is an immense album.

There are better songs on other albums but Hunky Dory has good feel to it. Each song runs nicely into the next. Yeah, it's a great piece of work.

I actually liked his last two but the last one takes some work.

Re: Hunky Dory voted greatest Bowie album
my favourites are;

Ziggy Stardust
Diamond Dogs
David Bowie
Hunky Dory
Scary Monsters

I don't like the so called Berlin or Thin White Duke Years material at all, well part from the odd gem like Sound and Vision

Wouldn't say I can't stand his music, but I've never heard any of his songs and thought 'wow', though at the same time I wouldn't feel the need to instantly turn the radio over like I do with Robbie Williams, Gabriel or the Lighthouse Family.

Can't all like the same stuff and he did always seem like a good bloke.

When I was younger my favourite was Ziggy Stardust. These days it's Low. Even love the B side of Low that many don't like.

Re: Hunky Dory voted greatest Bowie album
He did have a habit of putting unwelcome (imo) covers on otherwise excellent albums, the Rolling Stones one on Aladdin Sane, Across the Universe on Young Americans and Wild is the Wind on Station to Station.

Pin Ups, according to Bowie was an 'insiders' type album, put together to give the spiders something do while he considered his move, it turned out they favoured continuing to do conventional rock n roll rather than the conceptual stuff bowie preferred, so he got rid. He comes across as being quite calculating and ruthless in those days (thankfully).

Outside is criminally under-rated. I played that to death when it came out.

Hunky Dory
Ziggy
Space Oddity

Those are my favouriye 3. Space Oddity rarely gets mentioned but there are some outstanding tracks. 'Cygnet Comittee' has the most inssne lyrics as does 'Unwashed and somewhat slightly dazed'. And 'letter to Hermoine has to be among the best love songs ever written.

Station to Station is a good one though always have to swerve "Wild is the Wind" or whatever it's called. Heroes is an album I've recently got into, I was put off by the title track before but the instrumentals, the second track Joe Lion and that strange warped Arabia track at the end. make it a bit better than Low. I would probably go for Ziggy over Aladdin Sane because of that terrible cover of 'Let's spend the night together' on AS, but both albums are overall great. I would have Ziggy joint top with Hunky Dory.

It's true. It's fucking awful. The exact opposite of Spiders From Mars.
